Cleaning a kitchen sink always remains at the least priority of your kitchen chores. Especially, when it is a stainless steel handwash sink, it is only left to be done because stains look hard to clean. But in reality, it is not that hard to clean your stainless steel sink, it just appears to be hard. It is understood that if you cook a lot or do all the DIY with your kitchen stuff, then it is expected to get your kitchen sink messy. It is important to clean this mess regularly otherwise it will only stay stuck up there and you will be left with even harder stains.

No matter if you have a multi-sink setup or portable handwash station, it might make your sink set up less messy but it needs cleaning after all. Therefore, let us tell you everything you need to know about cleaning your stainless steel sink.

Steps to clean stainless steel sinks:

  • Let us first begin with taking off the scrap food from the sink. Use a spray hose to remove those small leftover food grains, so that it would not get stuck in the outlet.
  • Sprinkle some water, wet the surface of the sink, coat it with a thin layer of baking soda and then let it settle for some time.
  • Once the surface has been bleached with soda, you get a scrub pad or a cross-fiber cloth, scrub soda all over the sink. This is called abrasive scrubbing as it removes the stains due to the abrasion of soda and scrub pad against the surface.
  • Get some lemon and rub it all over the sink, so that soda and lemon react together to deodorize the stainless steel sink.
  • Make sure you rinse it with the right amount of white vinegar so that soda dissolves and doesn’t clog the drain. If there is fizzing, it’s a good sign. Fizzing cleans and takes the stains off.
  • When it is done, rinse the sink well with water. Wipe it dry and shine it with some olive oil.

Tips to keep the stainless steel sink clean:

  • Use some club soda to scrub sink once in a week for the new like shine for your indoor sink like portable shampoo bowl.
  • Don’t let the soaps, scrubbers, etc dry on the sink surface. It corrodes the surface and leaves the stains on.
  • Avoid leaving cast iron cookware on the wet sink to avoid corrosion.
